Barcelona has announced that Argentine striker, Sergio Aguero will be out for up to 10 weeks after he picked up a knock in his calf region. The former Manchester City forward picked up the injury in his right calf while training with the Barcelona squad. He is now set to be out of action till mid or late October.
This is the latest in a series of injury setbacks that have bedevilled the striker in recent times. While at the Etihad, Aguero missed 24 games in the 2019-20 season before missing another 17 games in his final 2020-21 season at the club. This made Pep Guardiola decide ways of playing without a striker, often deploying a false nine or playing Gabriel Jesus/Ferran Torres in the position.
For a player who relies on an explosive pace and quick movement in the box, Aguero is prone to picking up many muscular injuries. This is why he keeps picking up repeated injuries. Barcelona knew his injury record and was ready to expertly manage the Argentine throughout the season. However, this leaves them with only Martin Braithwaite as the only recognised striker in the squad.
With Lionel Messi leaving and other forward players such as Ousmane Dembele and Phillipe Coutinho also injury-prone, they will need the services of Aguero to provide the goals. Aguero will miss the first 9 La Liga matches of the season and a couple of group stage matches in the UEFA Champions League. He might be fit enough to play in the first Clasico of the season on October 24th.
