A winner at all costs: How Cristiano Ronaldo as captain will deliver titles to Manchester United

Homecoming star and former golden boy, Cristiano Ronaldo will likely make his debut for Manchester United this Saturday when Manchester United plays host to Newcastle United on Matchday 4 of the English Premier League. This will be the first time Ronaldo would be putting on the red of Manchester United since he left in the summer of 2009. None of the other 10 players he'll be lining up with to face Newcastle was playing at the Old Trafford when he left. And just a handful of them was playing in the Premier League as of 2009.

When Maguire joined United from Leicester in 2019, he had only been playing in the Premier League for 2 seasons yet he was made the United captain immediately. In a team lacking leaders and established players, Cristiano is a shining light. 

Cristiano Ronaldo is also undoubtedly the most decorated member of the United squad, winning trophies in Portugal (1), England (9), Spain (14) and Italy (5). Along the way, he has won 7 league titles and 5 UEFA Champions League titles along with his 5 Ballon d'Or titles. He is a serial winner that has won titles everywhere he goes. 

All these attributes are what makes him the perfect candidate to be selected as captain of Manchester United. In a captain roster that currently consists of Harry Maguire, David de Gea, Phil Jones and Nemanja Matic; Cristiano Ronaldo stands above them all. The Portugal captain is also not new to leadership positions, famously leading an unexpected Portugal side to Euro2016 glory at the expense of France. If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a serial winner to lead his talented team to titles, Cristiano Ronaldo is the perfect candidate.
