A club would be willing to invest lots of millions to put Sergio Agüero and Lionel Messi together

Both stars are close to a big move outside of their respective clubs. Could a club place some millions on the table to grab them both and field them together?

South America has many football stars that have excelled in Europe during the last years. Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil lump most of them together. Apart from Brazilians Neymar and Philippe Coutinho, and Uruguay’s Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani, Argentina has enjoyed since more than a decade the talent of Lionel Messi and Sergio Agüero.

Now, they are both facing an unexpected situation: both Argentine strikers have their contracts about to expire. Messi and Agüero are linked to FC Barcelona and Manchester City FC respectively until June 30th, 2021. From now on, they both can receive offers to join any team in the world con a free transfer.

It’s quite known that Agüero and Messi have been close friends for long years, winning first the U20 World Cup in Netherlands in 2005, and later, the Olympic Games Gold Medal in Beijing 2008. Both reached the Final in 2014 World Cup, same for 2015 and 2016 Copa América. They are big symbols for Argentina.

What can happen next? It is known that Pep Guardiola wanted to convince Lionel Messi to sign for Manchester City after his last conflicts with FC Barcelona. Agüero would be more than happy to welcome his good friend and his family onboard at Manchester. But it’s not the only choice. Agüero knows Manchester City won’t retain him if he wants to leave, and Barcelona could finally sign a world-class striker after losing Luis Suárez.

"So, how much is it?"

Messi’s current contract is estimated in 26 million pounds, which would translate into around $35 million. Definitely Manchester City will have to do the math and have a look at the Financial Fair Play. On the other end, Barcelona will have to raise 13 million pounds, almost $18 million, if they want to announce Agüero as their new player.
