Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Manchester United has been a resounding success so far for both player and club, especially for the club. The Portuguese international completed a stunning return to Old Trafford after 12 years away at Real Madrid (9 years) and Juventus (3 years). Ronaldo signed for United on transfer deadline day, after he informed Juventus that he would prefer to leave.

Due to the circumstances of the transfer, Manchester United got Cristiano Ronaldo for a cut-price fee of £15m with performance-related add-ons in the region of another £7m. The English Premier League side however, made him the highest-paid footballer in the league by offering him a salary of £510,000 weekly (£26.52m annually).

The United forward is also expected to earn another £46m annually in performance-based and achievement-based match bonuses. This would bring the total amount that United would be spending on the 2-year deal with Cristiano Ronaldo to £160m.

However, the English Premier League club will have no problems paying the huge salary that Cristiano Ronaldo would be drawing because they have already made the full £160m back. In just the first 24 hours of Cristiano Ronaldo's 'CR7' Jersey shirt release, it was reported that over 1 million replica jerseys were sold. At £100 per jersey, this amounts to £100m sales for United.

Additionally, on his debut against Newcastle United, Manchester United made another £20m extra by selling the tickets at the gates. The club has also launched a new long-sleeved jersey version of their current kit. United are also expected to make a sizeable return from the new jerseys. Lastly, the Glazer family made an extra £15.7m from the sale their 9.5 million United shares, thanks to the arrival of Cristiano. This means that the club has already made back the sum of £160m required to pay Cristiano Ronaldo's salaries.
