Chivas didn’t complete a good regular season, in which they ended 7th after earning 26 points out of 17 matches played. The team coached by Víctor Vucetich qualified to the repêchage and first eliminated Necaxa to afterwards meet Club America on the quarter-finals of tournament Guard1anes.
With a victory 1-0, Chivas will now have to defend the result obtained at Stadium Azteca on November 29. But before all of this happened, Vucetich was already working with sport adviser Ricardo Peláez to conform a more competitive squad for the next year.
As long as the campaign wasn’t going well, Vucetich was seriously considering on axing Raúl Gudiño, the goalkeeper aged 24 who didn’t complete a good regular season. But against Club America, Gudiño showed all his talent and sent a clear message to the head coach saying that he has to stay at the club.
Gudiño was formed at Chivas and passed through Porto B, Uniao Madeira and APOEL FC, before leaving back to the Rebaño Sagrado on July 2018. After two years at the club he had many appearances and, as the last ones weren’t that good, the club was thinking on axing him, but after these performances they must have changed their mind.
