FC Barcelona is plotting its way in the aftermath of the departure of Lionel Messi. Messi, the all-time highest goalscorer for Barcelona, left the club to join forces with PSG earlier this month. During his 18-year stay at Camp Nou, Messi was easily the best player and most deadly attacker the Blaugrana had.

With his departure, the Ronald Koeman-led team would have to find a way to replace the 40+ goals that the Argentine customarily scores every season. To do this, the club is rumoured to be after Arsenal's striking duo of Alexander Lacazette Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Both players were left out of Arsenal's 2-0 opening day loss to Newcomers Brentford, a development that has raised eyebrows around the London club.

Barcelona is said to be monitoring developments at the Emirates Stadium and will be ready to pounce if any or both of the strikers become available. Barcelona only has Martin Braithwaite available as a recognised striker for the start of the season. Albanian striker, Rey Manaj has not been tested in top-flight football while Argentine, Sergio Aguero picked up a knock in training that has ruled him out for up to 10 weeks.

Arsenal is reportedly looking for ways to reduce their wage bill, with both Aubameyang and Lacazette on huge salaries. They have Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun as young strikers in their squad. Meanwhile, Barcelona was able to put 4 goals past Real Sociedad in their opening La Liga match on Sunday, despite the absence of Lionel Messi.
