Ryan Giggs was formally accused of having attacked two women and will have to appear in court in the context of the case against him. After this confirmation, the former footballer was separated from his position as coach of the Wales national team and will not be in charge of the team at the next European Championship.

The episode for which Giggs, 47, is charged, occurred on November 1, 2020, at Giggs' home in Worsley, near Salford. That night an incident occurred with two women, one of whom was the coach's partner, and the former footballer was arrested, although he was later released on bail, which is why he remains under judicial supervision to this day.

The coach faces two charges for assault as a result of what happened on that occasion. As published by the EFE agency, a spokesman for the British judicial procedures service specified that the former Manchester United player would appear before the Manchester and Salford court of first instance on April 28.

"We've authorized the Greater Manchester Police to charge Ryan Giggs with controlling or coercive behavior and with having committed an assault that resulted in bodily injury," the prosecution statement said. "An accusation of assault on a second woman was also admitted," he added.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) acted quickly and decided to separate Giggs from his position, which is why he will not be in charge of the team at the European Championship, which will begin to be played on June 11 at 12 different venues. Robert Page will be the coach of the Welsh team and will be assisted by Albert Stuivenberg.
