Since the emergence of VAR (Video Referee Assistance) in the main tournaments on the planet, a rule remained in the center of the scene: the one that marks the offside. Within this great debate that originated, an important protagonist proposed a revolutionary change, which would change the way of playing this sport today.

Marco van Basten, former Ajax and Milan striker and glory of the Netherlands team, during an interview with Sky Sport asked the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body that dictates and regulates football rules, the abolition offside.

"I'm very curious about the offside rule because I'm convinced that it is not a good rule", began his story the Dutchman, who was in charge of the technical development of FIFA between 2016 and 2018. Then he was more direct and asked remove it from the regulation: "I would like to try it to show that soccer is possible without the offside rule. I'm convinced that soccer would be better without it".

Van Basten, winner of three Eredivisie, three Dutch Cups, three Serie A, two Italian Super Cup, one European Cup Winners' Cup, two European Champions Cups, two European Super Cups and two Intercontinental Cups, remarked that "football It's a fantastic game, but I still think we have to do a lot more to make it better, more spectacular, more interesting, more exciting. We have to work on that.".
