Argentina and Lionel Messi already made their debut in the Copa America USA 2024 after defeating Canada 2-0 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Messi did not score, but he was one of the best players on the pitch as he grabbed an assist for Lautaro Martinez's goal in the second half. While it was a great start for the Argentina national team, Messi's wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, did not have a great experience preview of the match at the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Videos online captured the moment of the stadium's security preventing Antonella Roccuzzo from entering the stadium with a purse. Messi's wife had to leave her belongings since the organization of the Copa America does not allow certain items to enter the playing fields. In the video, it shows Antonella arguing with the security guard, and then eventually, after a long discussion, she is allowed to enter the stadium by leaving some of her belongings.
Antonella was able to watch the match in the stadium with her children from up high. Messi's family got to see the full match as Argentina won the game 2-0 against Canada. The stadium was sold out, and it was filled with Argentina fans, who were hoping to see Messi score in the stadium. In the first half, it wasn't the best for Argentina as it was 0-0, and Canada had clear chances on goal.
The second half improved massively as Julian Alvarez scored the opener of the match in the 49th minute thanks to an assist by Alexis Mac Allister and a through ball from Lionel Messi beforehand. The second goal arrived in the 88th minute as Messi passed the ball to Martinez, who poked the ball in between the goalkeeper's legs to make it 2-0.
Argentina will soon be playing their second game on the group stage of the Copa America. On Tuesday, Argentina will be playing against Chile at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and New York. Chile drew 0-0 against Peru yesterday in Group A.
