Rodrygo’s comments about Messi’s Argentina that didn’t go down well in Brazil before the start of Copa America

The Copa America is a week away, and the tournament favorites are once again Argentina and Brazil. Out of the two teams, Argentina is the favorite to lift the Copa America trophy in July as they are the current World Champions and the holder of Copa America, which they won in 2021. Brazilian fans are hopeful that Brazil will win the Copa America again, but Rodrygo’s words did not convince them. Real Madrid is optimistic about the tournament, but he complimented Lionel Messi’s Argentina team. In an interview with Placar, Rodrygo said, “Brazil, in every competition, every game, are always favorites. Of course we are behind Argentina, they are the world champions, current champions of the Copa América as well, but we are with all the ability to change this situation and make Brazil return to be the best in America and the best in the world.” Some Brazilian fans did not appreciate Rodrygo saying that the team is behind Argentina, but they would like to hear that they will do everything to win the Copa America.

Rodrygo talked about the lack of confidence in the team before. He said, “This last FIFA date was a watershed, it increased our confidence. In the past calls, whether I want it or not, it was a group that did not have that much confidence. Of course, because there is not 100% of the crowd, of the press, next to us, everyone with a lot of doubt, and this generates a distrust for us inside [of the Brazilian national team].”

Brazil defeated England 1-0 and drew 3-3 against Spain in the FIFA International break in March. Rodrygo will be wearing the number 10 shirt for Brazil, while Vinicius Jr. will wear the number 7. They will be under a lot of pressure this tournament this summer as they haven’t won a major trophy with the national team. The last time Brazil won Copa America was in 2019.

Brazil’s Copa America

Brazil will be in Group D as they will play against Costa Rica, Paraguay, and Colombia. Their first match will be against Costa Rica on June 24th at SoFi Stadium. On June 28th, they will play against Paraguay at Allegiant Stadium. The final match from the group stage will be against Colombia on July 2nd at Levi’s Stadium.
