Canadian soccer stars Ayo Akinola and Cyle Larin will not be continuing in the ongoing CONCACAF Gold Cup after picking up different injuries in the game against USA, which they will not recover from in time to play at the tournament again.

Ayo Akinola who recently chose Canada over the USA will be spending an extended time out injured after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament while Besiktas player Cyle Larin, who has three goals in the tournament suffered a leg injury that rules him out of the tournament.

Akinola could also miss the rest of the MLS season for his club Toronto FC and possibly the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying games due to the time his rehabilitation from injury will take.

Canada, the winners of the 2000 Gold Cup will play their quarterfinal game against the winner of the group C match between Costa Rica and Jamaica. They may play against champions Mexico if both countries progress to the semifinal.
