La Liga champions Atletico Madrid and Portuguese giants Porto settled for a point as they played out a 0-0 draw in their opening games in group B, famously dubbed the group of death.
The match was keenly contested with not much space to attack for both sides because of strong defensive displays. The match was reckless as the referee gave nine yellow cards, six to Porto and three to Atletico Madrid. A red card was also issued to Porto's Chancel Mbemba for a late last man foul.
Atletico Madrid were the better side, enjoyed more possession than Porto and had twice as many shots on target Porto produced. They were also caught offside five times which shows their intent to attack spaces and move the ball into the opposition box.
Both teams sit second and third in group B after the other match of the group between Liverpool and AC Milan ended 3-2 in favour of Liverpool. The group is still very open for anyone to qualify to the knockout stages as well as to be eliminated.
