Barcelona's coaching conundrum has finally come to an end after Qatari club Al Sadd announced that they have released Xavi Hernandez from his contract and is now free to take over the managerial position at Barcelona.
Xavi joined Barcelona's famous La Masia academy at the age of 11 and made it through the ranks. He made his senior debut in 1998 and played for the club for 17 years until his departure in 2015 after captaining the club to Champions League success, his fourth for the club.
He played 767 official matches, a record which was broken by Lionel Messi. He scored 85 goals and assisted a further 185 goals. He played 505 La Liga matches and won the La Liga title eight times. He played 151 UEFA Champions League matches and won it four times.
He was named Barcelona captain in his final season after agreeing to stay on due to talks with Luis Enrique. He won 26 major titles with Barcelona amidst several other individual honours. He will hope to win all the titles he won for Barcelona as a player again as a manager just like he did at Al Sadd where he won trophies both as player and as manager.
