After Sunday's 2-0 defeat to the Czech Republic in Budapest, Frank De Boer decided to resign as the goal of reaching the quarterfinals was not met. An expected decision after that defeat last Sunday afternoon.

"I decided not to continue as national coach. The objective has not been achieved, that is clear," said Frank de Boer in the official statement published by the KNVB (Royal Netherlands Football Association).

"The pressure is mounting now and that is not a healthy situation for me or for the squad. On the way to qualifying for the World Cup," added Frank de Boer, who joined the national team in September 2020 when his predecessor, Ronald Koeman, signed for Barcelona.

On the other hand, France coach Didier Dechamps said about his future: "I take on my responsibilities. I'm not worried. When we win, the credit goes first and foremost to the players, when you lose it's always the coach's fault."
