Sergiño Dest was a starter, but came off at halftime in Barcelona's Champions League elimination

Despite starting the game, Sergiño Dest came off at halftime during Barcelona Champions League elimination. Bayern beat the Spanish team 3-0 and eliminated them in the group stage. 

The American player had his chance in the world's biggest club tournament, and against one of Europe's top teams.

However, the German superiority was evident and the team led by Xavi was unable to overcome Bayern's effectiveness. 

Dest, who has always played as a full back, was brought in for this match to play more in attack, but his performance did not convince Xavi, who did not use him for the second half. 

Dest's performance in Barcelona Champions League elimination

The Spanish press was surprised that Xavi begun the match with Dest as a starter, as the player has struggled to adapt to his new coach's game plan. 

Dest started the match as a right winger, as the idea was that the player could be incorporated into the attack at any time. 

Xavi therefore prepared a game plan with a 4-3-3 lineup, for which he called up all his star players, starting with goalkeeper Ter Stegen. 

The others called up for this match were: Araújo, Piqué, Lenglet, Alba; Gavi, Busquets, De Jong; Depay and Dembélé.

Dest took an active part in a play in the 8th minute, when he back-heeled a pass to his teammate, who couldn't get to the ball in time to score the goal that would have given them the lead in the first half. 

However, in the next play, Dest arrived too late to a ball that Bayern had been awarded a foul, but fortunately Jordi Alba beat the attacker to the ball and was able to clear the ball out of the box. 

The first half ended and Barcelona had to go into the dressing room losing 2-0, with goals from Thomas Müller in the 34th minute and Leroy Sané in the 43rd minute. 

In the second half, Dest did not play anymore and in his place, Xavi put Nico González on the field, who could not do much in defense and Barcelona conceded one more goal. 

This time it was in the 62nd minute, by Jamal Musiala. 

Barcelona is unable to recover

Until before this game, Xavi's first month as Barcelona coach was going well, to say the least. 

The team had accumulated in this time two wins, one loss and one draw, however today's defeat puts pressure on the coach's tenure at Barcelona. 

The elimination in the group stage is already considered a total failure by the Spanish press and Barcelona fans. 

Sergiño Dest's permanence in Barcelona in doubt

The pressure is not only on the team's coach, but also on the American player. 

In recent days the Spanish press speculated that the problems the player has had to adapt to Xavi's game plan and his poor performance, put him as an option for sale in the next transfer market.
