At the end of last week, tragic news was confirmed for Luis Diaz, about the kidnapping of his parents in Colombia at the hands of a criminal group. The days have passed since that occasion, and only the mother has been able to be rescued; in fact, she was released hours after the kidnapping. However, his father remains missing and it remains difficult to find him for the next few hours.
As the BBC can confirm, the Colombian government accused the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla this Thursday of being behind the kidnapping of the father of Liverpool footballer Luis Díaz. This was reported in Colombia by the government delegation for peace talks with that guerrilla. The incident could affect the peace negotiation that the ELN maintains with the government of President Gustavo Petro, who wants to end a six-decade internal conflict that has left more than 450,000 dead.
In the statement released by the Colombian government it is reported: "We have had official knowledge that the kidnapping carried out on October 28, in Barrancas, department of La Guajira, of which Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda, father and mother, were victims of the soccer player Luis Fernando Diaz Maralanda, was perpetrated by a unit belonging to the ELN." The Colombian government is supporting the family of Luis Diaz with the aim of finding his family.
During the Liverpool match last weekend, Luis Díaz's player and teammate, Diogo Jota, scored the first goal of the match and did not hesitate to dedicate the goal to the Colombian footballer, who is going through difficult times. Luis Manuel Díaz, 58, was kidnapped on Saturday, October 28, along with his wife Cilenis Marulanda near the municipality of Barrancas, in the department of La Guajira, in northern Colombia, by armed people who were traveling on motorcycles and intercepted the van in which they were traveling.
