Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland are two attackers who, beyond their great future, are being the great reality in European football. Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have a nice problem, having to decide between these two powerful forwards. However, the club is also placing itself in an important way in the current campaign and has decided to start both of them in several games. Now, a former Argentine player surprises and assures that Julian is beginning to surpass Haaland.

Julián Álvarez fights for the starting position at Manchester City with none other than Erling Haaland and contrary to what many thought, he has not clashed at any time. This is the case of Jorge D'Alessandro, former technical director of Salamanca and Atlético de Madrid and now a sports analyst. Who spared no praise for the “Spider”, after his time with the English team and the Argentine national team.

“He is learning, he is with a great teacher who is Pep Guardiola who will also have taught him things and is making him a total footballer. Guardiola is a coach to enrich a footballer and above all in the role that he is giving him. I think he is overshadowing Haaland. He is totally overshadowing him,” he declared in an interview for TyC Sports. D'Alessandro went further and compared Julián Álvarez with Alfredo Di Stéfano.

Julian Alvarez's great moment

It is not about denying the quality of the Norwegian attacker, but rather highlighting that the Argentine's contribution goes beyond the scores. If the Viking does not get the ball, he can disappear from the game. On the other hand, Álvarez is much more involved in the game, in setting up the attacks and recovering (he gave two assists and was key to the comeback against West Ham). He provides another sacrifice and, if that were not enough, he is also taking charge of the dead ball. For Pep Guardiola, this is a positive problem as he has two quality forwards at his disposal.
