Everton were sanctioned by the Premier League for a significant amount of points. The English team did not manage to place itself as expected in the investigations for breaching financial sanctions and therefore, the English league decided to rule against the club. However, Mirror reports that Manchester City and Chelsea are under investigation, something that makes a possible points deduction by both teams a reality or even a possible relegation.

Everton were deducted a record 10 points for violating profit and sustainability rules. The Premier League issued a statement on the matter. The Premier League has backed the findings of an independent commission against Everton's failure to comply with profitability and sustainability standards. "An independent commission has imposed an immediate deduction of 10 points on Everton FC for non-compliance with the profitability and sustainability standards of the Premier League," said the entity that regulates the first division of English football in a statement.

He continued: “The Premier League lodged a complaint against Everton and referred the case to an independent commission earlier this year. “During the proceedings, the Club admitted that it had breached the PSR for the period ending the 2021/22 season, but the extent of the breach remained a matter of dispute.”

What else did the Premier League say?

It also ruled: “Following a five-day hearing last month, the Commission determined that Everton FC's PSR calculation for the relevant period resulted in a loss of £124.5 million, as claimed by the Premier League, which exceeded the £105 million threshold permitted under the PSRs. The commission concluded that a sporting penalty in the form of a 10-point deduction should be imposed. “This sanction has immediate effect.”
