Manchester United had a shameful participation in the recent 2023-2024 edition of the UEFA Champions League by finishing last in its sector and not even achieving qualification for the UEFA Europa League as consolation. All this happened after losing 1-0 on the final day of the Group Stage against Bayern Munich, so now a clean-up is in sight on the part of the board to try to change the course of what has been , so far, one of the worst seasons in its history.

The reality is that the team led by the Dutchman Erik Ten Hag is running out of time, and it is looking more and more likely that he may be relieved of his position. However, in addition to this, it seems that there will be urgent changes to the squad as soon as the imminent winter market. In addition to the fact that Ten Hag's future would be far from Old Trafford and while they are looking for who would be the ideal replacement coach for the remainder of the season in Europe, other movements are being considered that will surely shake up the next market.

According to information from The Independent and The Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils board will facilitate the departure of the French central defender Raphaël Varane, the Brazilian holding midfielder Casemiro and the British winger Jadon Sancho when the transfer market opens in January. The report also indicates that they could sell other players, although they would be more flexible with them, with rumors suggesting that perhaps French striker Anthony Martial and Dutch midfielder Donnie Van de Beek could also leave Man United as soon as just few days.

It must be remembered that Sancho was completely erased by Ten Hag after problems in the locker room and has not played for the club since last August 26, while former Real Madrid players, Varane and Casemiro, have been the object of desire from from other clubs like Bayern Munich or the now rich and shiny Saudi Arabian league. Furthermore, it is not forgotten that the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo left the club because of the aforementioned Ten Hag and since then things have not changed for the better.

Is all lost for Manchester United this season?

Manchester United is currently seventh in the 2023-2024 Premier League campaign with 27 points, a distant 10 points behind leader Liverpool. And although mathematically there is still a chance of winning the English league or at least improving its position at the end, realistically the only title it aspires to is the FA Cup, having already been eliminated from its participation in the League Cup and the UEFA Champions League, as well as the UEFA Europa League.
