Liverpool achieved an important result on Boxing Day. Jurgen Klopp's team is determined to be the great candidate for the Premier League title this season and has already added vital points that make this dream stay alive. With goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, those from Anfield managed to defeat Burnley as visitors. The team is in an important moment in the current season.

Liverpool struck at the start and finish of their visit to Burnley to regain the lead of the Premier League on Boxing Day. The match started and ended the same for Liverpool, with a goal. In five minutes Cody Gakpo advanced on the left end and took the low center for the frontal appearance of Darwin Núñez, who defined with a perfect right foot from outside the area.

Much later, in the ninety minute, a fierce counterattack left Diogo Jota on the left corner of the area, and from there he took a left-footed shot from a small angle that filtered through Trafford's resistance. Between one goal and another, the development was very favorable to Liverpool, which generated many clear situations against an opponent that hardly worried Alisson with any concrete danger. Of course, the short result kept the tension on the surface, until Jota cleared any hint of a dark cloud.

Arsenal can regain the lead

Liverpool did their part and now the ball is in the court of Aston Villa, who could catch up if they defeat Manchester United later. Arsenal, home to West Ham on Thursday, depends on itself to regain the lead alone. Arteta's men are other candidates to fight for the Premier League this season and want to close 2023 as leaders.
