Manchester United are not having the transfer window they expected. Erik Ten Hag's team struggled to get Mason Mount at a very high price and now, they have not been able to sign the defender they want, nor a new striker. To make matters worse, now a player has refused to play for Manchester United and has been announced as a new Arsenal FC player.

Arsenal announced Friday the signing of 22-year-old central defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax for the next five seasons, until 2028. The Dutch international, who will wear the number 12 shirt in the Gunners, cost €45 million after being a key player at Ajax.

Timber is a great defender who has excelled in Amsterdam and now, arrives as a brand new reinforcement of the Gunners. The English club's Sporting Director, Brazilian Edu Gaspar took the opportunity to highlight Timber's qualities: "Jurrien is a talented young international player, who fits our vision of competing with a young and strong squad".

Did Timber turn down Manchester United?

The reality is that he was a player that Erik Ten Hag knows extremely well from his time at Ajax and also, he has been placed as an important target for the Old Trafford club in view of their defensive need. However, the player ended up deciding to play for Arteta's Arsenal FC for the following season. The club paid a significant amount and many things are expected from the player.
