The transfer market has taken away from Manchester City one of its most important elements in recent years. A person who helped Pep Guardiola win trophies in recent seasons and who now decides to leave the club for Major League Soccer where he is offered an important role away from the field and more focused on the management of the club.

Austin FC announced Friday the hiring of Manchester City senior assistant Rodolfo Borrell as the Major League Soccer team's sporting director. Borrell was named assistant coach prior to last season, in which Manchester City won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup titles.

Borrell, 52, spent nine seasons at Manchester City, first as overall manager of the Premier League side, before being appointed assistant first-team coach under Pep Guardiola in 2016. Now, he will have an important role in one of the most exciting projects as Austin FC.

What does Austin FC have to say about Borrell's arrival?

"He brings an impressive track record, vast experience and passion for this beautiful game and we fully believe he is the right person to grow our ambitions and develop the best players, coaches and staff for the first team, second team and academy," said Anthony Precourt, founder and majority owner of Austin FC.
