Thomas Tuchel's side, who will face Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, had a smooth passage in the duel at the Riverside Stadium against an opponent clinging to the enthusiasm to extend their participation in the Cup, but without arguments on the pitch to challenge the superiority of the current runners-up of the tournament.

Middlesbrough vs Chelsea Highlights

The London side, who put the game beyond doubt on the half-hour mark, will be in the finals at Wembley. Mason Mount had a lot to do with it. The young midfielder was at the forefront of his team's attacking moves. In one of them, he led the counterattack on the right that ended with a cross into the box, where Lukaku burst in to beat goalkeeper Joe Lumley and take the ball into the net.

Mount also assisted in the second goal, which gave the ball to Ziyech. The Moroccan looked for space and, from the right corner, outside the box, he struck a shot that surprised the home goalkeeper. Both actions put Middlesbrough, one of two Championship sides in the Cup quarter-final line-up, to shame. The other are Liverpool's rivals, Nottingham Forest.

The score could have been increased in the second half. Both teams had chances to score, but Chelsea, who are showing their effectiveness in the play-offs, never lost control of the match.
