David De Gea has been one of Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag's most trusted men since he arrived in the English championship. The Spanish goalkeeper has shown an important level and last season, he was the best in his position in the Premier League. However, the future of the Spaniard is still uncertain after Ten Hag clarified that they need reinforcements in every line of the field, including the goal.

The Spanish goalkeeper is expiring his contract at the end of the current season and, after rejecting the club's renewal offer, there is a high probability that he will leave Old Trafford in the coming months. Given this situation, Manchester United does not want to give way to surprises and therefore negotiates with another player for next season.

André Onana is Erik Ten Hag's top choice. The Dutch tactician already coincided with the goalkeeper in the past. Ajax brought them together, and together they were able to reach the Champions League semifinals in the 2018/19 season, where they missed the chance to advance to the grand final after losing to Tottenham in a historic comeback. According to Fabrizio Romano, there are already contacts between the two environments.

What will De Gea do if Onana signs for Manchester United?

The reality is that the Spanish goalkeeper is close to leaving the club and the fact that the team is negotiating with the Cameroonian goalkeeper suggests that they are not prioritizing his renewal either. Therefore, if Onana ends up wearing the Red Devil, David De Gea would be the one to leave Old Trafford next season.
