Although he’s been a reliable goalkeeper, his recent performances made Steven Gerrard look for a competitor for Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, and they found him in Football League Championship side Sheffield United.
The 32-year-old Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen will join the Villans in a 6-month loan out of AS Roma, team that owns his economic rights, although he was playing with Sheffield on a loan for the past six months without much success.
So far, the Swedish international had only played on 11 games in the English second division, something that didn’t sit well with him and was looking for a relocation. Now, he’ll jump to English top tier division, as he’ll try to beat Martínez for the starting job.
Robin Olsen stint with AS Roma
Olsen joined Italian side back in 2018 out of Danish FC Copenhagen. After a season with La Lupa, he was loaned for a season to Cagliari. Since then, the starting goalkeeper for Sweden National Team hasn’t found regularity, as he’s been loaned for Everton, Sheffield United and now Aston Villa.
