Everton received one of the worst news in the team's history. The club learned that it will be sanctioned with a heavy amount of points due to non-compliance with the Premier League's financial regulations. However, according to Sky, the English league is beginning to exert pressure so that the ongoing investigation into Manchester City also begins to yield results and if it fails in favor of the league, the club should be expelled from the competition.

According to Mail Sport, The Premier League and the FA have begun to receive pressure from various media and clubs over allegations of 115 FFP rules being violated by Manchester City. Spokespeople for 16 of the 20 Premier League clubs ask that if the club is found guilty they ask that Manchester City be DISQUALIFIED from the Premier League. The clubs that are most pressing for a ruling are Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton.

When Sean Dyche seemed to have righted Everton's sporting course, stringing together four consecutive games without losing in all competitions, the financial problems of the past hit the Goodison Park team squarely. “Everton have received a 10-point deduction this season for breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules,” reports The Athletic. It is the largest points deduction penalty in Premier League history.

The sanction against Everton

The sanction, imposed by an independent commission, which took charge of the case in March for alleged infractions committed during the 2021-2022 season, takes the 'toffees' from 14th place in the table, nine points above the positions of relegation, to the penultimate place. Everton, once the 10-point deduction has been applied, is tied at four with Vincent Kompany's Burnley, who have only won one game so far this league season.
