Manchester United has had a tense preseason to say the least. Erik Ten Hag's team has not been able to close all the signings it wanted and now, it also had a tension between two of its main elements such as Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire. Ten Hag decided to take the captain's strip off Harry Maguire and give it to Bruno Fernandes for this new season.

Erik ten Hag, Manchester United manager, explained in statements to the team's official media why he chose Bruno Fernandes as the new captain to the detriment of Harry Maguire. The coach showed respect for the central defender, although he suggested that he is not guaranteed an important position in his ranks, as he urged him to fight for his space. About the midfielder, he had only words of praise.

"We respect Harry (Maguire). Harry is very important for this team, for this squad. And you know, in his role as a central defender, we have four central defenders. I talked about consistency and we know we can't have it with just 11 players and that's it, so I'm happy that we have 4 good central defenders", Ten Hag shared.

What did Maguire say to Bruno about the change of captain's armband?

Bruno Fernandes spoke after the friendly match against Arsenal and tried to calm the waters regarding what is going on between him and the defender."Harry congratulated me for being the new club captain. There is no problem between us, it was a coach's decision and we are both in agreement with it", Bruno Fernandes sentenced about the incident between the two players.
