The Football Association (FA) is investigating an Arsenal player who may have forced a yellow card to rig sports bets.
Bookmakers alerted the FA that an "unusual" amount of money was wagered on an Arsenal player, whose identity has not been revealed, receiving a yellow card in a Premier League match this season.
As reported by The Athletic, the FA is investigating the matter and, although it knows the player's identity, it will not disclose it to safeguard his privacy.
What tipped off the bookmakers was the fact that the money wagered, instead of going to a conventional market, such as match-winner or scorer, went towards a more residual market such as which player will receive a yellow card.
Such incidents have a history in England and in 2018 Lincoln City defender Bradley Wood was suspended for six years for intentionally receiving yellow cards.
It is not known exactly when the complaint against the FA was filed, however, the note is recent and it is suspected to have been in one of the last three games played by Arteta's squad.
