Much was said in the preview of the list of the Mexican National Team whether or not Gerardo Martino was going to call Carlos Vela. Today Carlos Vela continues to be one of the best strikers in MLS and since he returned from his injury he has shown with LAFC that he is ready to fight for the position of any European player in the Mexican team.

The last friendlies were revealing for Gerardo Martino as he realized that the MLS players were at a disadvantage with the rest. It could be observed that the pace of play was very different between those who played in Europe and those who played in the MLS. This vision of Martino is a disadvantage for Carlos Vela.

Although Carlos Vela has returned with goals after his knee injury, Gerardo Martino once again closed the national team's doors to the historic Mexican player. It should also be clarified that Vela himself had said at the time that he no longer wanted to participate in the selection, but apparently after a while he regretted it.

For these same reasons and to give priority to Liga MX and the players in Europe, Gerardo Martino decided not to call Carlos Vela back to the Mexican team. For Martino there are other players ahead of Carlos Vela such as Jimenez from Wolves or Henry Martin himself from America.
