Thursday night was not as Lionel Messi and his Argentine companions were waiting for, at the start of the World Cup Qualifiers. Event tought the national team defeated 1-0 Ecuador in their debut, the match was much more tight than what expected and the locals weren't able to show up all of their players talent.

Messi was very welled controlled by the MLS defender Xavier Arreaga, center back for Seattle Sounders FC. The defender completed the whole game for Gustavo Alfaro's team and completed nine tackles. He and his partner at defense Roberto Arboleda achieved to control the fearsome Argentine attack at La Bombonera.

At the end it was a win for Argentina, after La Pulga scoring the penalty that Lionel Scaloni's team had in his favor. But Messi was clearly well surrounded by his rivals and could only make 41 accurate passes, and he didn't have a touch inside the box.

Arreaga has transformed himself into a key player at Seattle, after playing 14 matches this season for the team that stands at the first position in the western conference. At his absence, his team defeated Real Salt Lake 2-1 on Week 16 to maintain the first position in the start of the final stretch of the regular season.
