Philadelphia Union has agreed to transfer midfielder Brenden Aaronson to UEFA Champions League FC Red Bull Salzburg. The deal, which is the first European transfer out of the Union, includes a transfer fee of several million dollars and is likely to increase if the player meets certain performance objectives at the Austrian club.

The 19-year-old Brenden Aaronson, a product of the Philadelphia Union Academy, will remain in Philadelphia until the end of the season and will join the Austrian Bundesliga side FC Red Bull Salzburg when the international transfer window reopens in January 2021.

Playing in Europe has always been the dream for Aaronson. The winger is considered one of the greatest talents in MLS. His dynamism and his presence on the field are extraordinary for a 19-year-old. The midfielder made his debut for Philadelphia on March 17, 2019 against Atlanta United, a game in which he scored a goal.

Now, Aaronson is coming through in his second season with the club. He has registered seven goals and five assists in 42 games, 39 of which he has started. After been part of the US national team at U23, U19, U17 and U15 levels, Aaronson earned his first call-up from the US Men's National Team in October 2019 for a pair of Concacaf Nations League games.

Aaronson will join FC Red Bull Salzburg, which has won fourteen league titles, seven Austrian Cups and three Austrian Super Cups. The club, known for its impressive development of players such as Erling Haaland and Sadio Mane, have qualified for the Champions League for the second year in a row.
