When Edison Flores got injured last month, D.C. United had to look for a new striker to replace him during the time he had to be out. Now that he is back and the medical staff has cleared him, the Black-and-Red discovered they had a problem: their extra international roster spot had been usen to sign the Venezuelan striker Gelmin Rivas.

To solve this problem, D.C. United had two choices: either they could let Rivas or any of their other international players go, or thy could look for an extra international roster spot to keep the all. United's executives decided to follow the second option. The contacted Sporting Kansas City and offered them $50.000 in 2021 General Allocation Money (GAM), something that KC accepted.

It's curious that United's front office had chosen this way-out since the actually have an extra international spot available. This means that, after the trade with Sporting KC, they now have relocate Flores on the squad and also have an international spot tu fill. Considering that the MLS's transfer window closes at the end of October, it can be imagine that DC will make some more moves.

After Wednesday's defeat against New York City FC Ben Olson was sacked. The Black-and-Red is at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and seven points away from the closest playoffs spot. This can't be allowed for the most successful franchise of the MLS history. They need some moves to change their course. And they need them now.
