The sacrifice that Carlos Vela is willing to make to stay at LAFC
Los Angeles FC is playing without Carlos Vela and they are doing pretty well, but he still wants to stay at the club
The MLS return from the COVID-19 suspension without his main star and reigning MVP who broke the league’s single-season scoring record with 34 goals last season. There has been a lot of offers, even from Europe, for the player, but none of them was good enough to make him leave.
At the end of last season Carlos Vela was involved in talks about a possible movement to FC Barcelona. When the Spanish team lost Ousmane Dembele due to an injury, these talks became stronger. But at the end of the day, the signing did not complete and he stayed at the club.
The truth is that Carlos Vela is making a huge sacrifice to stay in Los Angeles because after the interest of such a big club as FC Barcelona the player got a lot of exposure. That means that many offers from other clubs showed for Vela. Although he decided to stay even now that he is not playing.
Losing almost a year of career is really hard for a player, but Vela is doing it only to stay at Los Angeles FC, the club that gave him the big opportunity he needed to become a world class forward. Was this the right choice? If he starts scoring again for the team soon, it will be.
