Carlos Vela played for the last time for Mexico national team on the elimination of his side on Russia World Cup round of 16 against Brazil. After that match, the attacker said that he won’t be going back to play with Mexico and took distance from the national team.

His level is being so good that Mexico may be really needing him, but his position seems to be unalterable. Head coach Gerardo Tata Martino said that the decision has to be taken by Vela and, once he does that, they will be choosing if they call him or not. But the player never gave that step forward.

The reason why Vela is not thinking on going back to Mexico is that he doesn’t really enjoy his time with the national team. At the age of 31, he is comfortably installed at Los Angeles, where he plays for LAFC and lives with his whole family. In the international breaks, he prefers to rest rather than to travel a long distance to play once again.

Vela has never loved soccer that much. He said that many times. He plays but once the game is over, things change for him. After 72 matches played for his national team, Vela may not be having the same intentions that at the start of his career and playing just for his club is fine for him.
