Columbus Crew ended a tremendous season in which they were the best team in the U.S. The side coached by Caleb Porter ended third on the Eastern Conference, after earning 41 points out of 23 games played. After that, they qualified to the MLS Cup Playoffs, and they were invincible since then.

Columbus Crew first defeated New York RB, then Nashville SC, the New England Revolution, and on the final game Seattle Sounders FC. With such a strike, they ended as the champions of the year, being Lucas Zelarayán, the Argentinian midfielder that arrived this year, one of the best players.

Zelarayán joined the MLS side on January 2020 for $8 million, after leaving Tigres UANL. Surprisingly, after the title obtained, many Liga MX fans criticized him. The reason is that they assure that the playmaker didn’t perform at the Mexican league as he did during this year in the MLS.

Despite what may be said, Zelarayán completed 21 games this year, scoring eight goals and giving three assists. His numbers are very similar to the ones he had at the Liga MX, where he played 25 games, scored seven goals and gave three assists as well. The Argentinian was chosen the MVP of the final game, in which he scored twice and gave and assist.
