Neymar will not win the World Cup three times in his career, as Pelé did. But at least he is closing in on O Rei as the all-time leading scorer for the Brazilian national team. The Paris Saint-Germain star moved to within nine goals of Pele after grabbing one in Thursday's 4-0 thrashing of Peru in the Copa America.

FIFA statistics put Pele at the top of the scoring charts for the Canarinha with 77 goals. Neymar has 68 after scoring his team's second against the Peruvians.

"Obviously it's a great honor for me to be part of Brazil's history," Neymar said in tears during an interview in which he paused several times to keep from breaking down in tears, after the victory at the Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
