Jonathan Dos Santos is a Mexican soccer player, born in 1990. He is known for being part of the Spanish club 'FC Barcelona' since he was a kid, alongside his brother, Giovani Dos Santos. He started in the youth league of the club, until his debut in the 2008/09 season with the A-youth team. During the same season, he obtained the Spanish passport, which allowed him to play in the first team.

Both are sons of Geraldo Francisco Dos Santos Javier also known as Zizinho, a Brazilian soccer player who played most of his career in Mexican soccer.

In 2009, the famous Barcelona manager Josep "Pep" Guardiola called him up for the preseason in England and the tour of the United States with the F. C. Barcelona first team: a huge opportunity for Javier Dos Santos. He disputed his first official match with the first team during the 2009 'Supercopa de España', against 'Athletic Club'. His first 'Champions League' match was against Italian 'Inter de Milán', as a substitute for Andrés Iniesta, in the 94th minute.

Jonathan Dos Santos‘ journey

January 2010 brought Jonathan Don Santos’ awaited moment. Pep Guardiola gave the defensive midfield a chance to play a full game, alongside Victor Vázquez and Thiago Alcántara, to make up for the absence of Yaya Touré and Seydou Keita, who went away to play the 2010 Africa 'Cup of Nations'.

He had a great preseason during 2011's summer, and ‘FC Barcelona’ decided to keep him. That same year, Jonathan Dos Santos had the chance to play again with the First team, disputing a match during the 'Copa del Rey' tournament, and playing for a few minutes against 'AC Milan' during the 'Champions League'. He was also one of the players selected by Barça to travel to Japan to play in the 2011 'Club World Cup'.

Everything was going well for Jonathan Dos Santos until he suffered a severe injury in his right knee. That injury caused him to miss six months during the 2012/13 season, and, unfortunately, Dos Santos concluded the cycle with only three games played. In 2014, Jonathan Dos Santos was transferred to the 'Villarreal CF' for a €2 million fee, where he reunited with his brother, Giovani.

Dos Santos’ USA career

After three seasons playing for 'Villarreal FC', in August 2017 Jonathan Dos Santos signed with USA's Major League Soccer team, 'LA Galaxy'. He joined the MLS's 'Los Angeles Galaxy' to play alongside his brother Giovani. Jonathan Dos Santos  is one of the team's captains and icons, but, after four years, he is rumored to be leaving the American league.

The midfield player's  injuries have become his most powerful foe: the 2019 season was the only one in which he was able to complete a full tournament; the others saw him play no more than 24 games. We'll just have to wait and see what happens at the end of this season.
