This year MLS Golden Boot will have a tight definition in the very end of the season. It will clearly be different from the last two years, in which Carlos Vela and Josef Martínez won with no competition at the end the 2019 and 2018 boot respectively. For now, we have a clear candidate, but he will have to work hard to earn it.

With Vela and Martínez, last two winners, injured, Diego Rossi, Uruguayan striker from Los Angeles FC is the most favorite player to earn the boot. He scored 12 goals this season and already won the MLS is Back Tournament boot. But, as it will be happening with some of his contenders, Rossi has trouble.

The top scorer is now playing with Uruguay national team, in a call-up on the October international break to play the World Cup Qualifiers. The same will be happening to Raul Ruidiaz (9 goal and third in the list). This will make them lose some extra games than what is habitual as they will be doing quarantine when coming from the U.S.

This scenario may be exploited by those players who are at the top of the list as scorers in the year and won't be playing with their national teams, such as Columbus Crew's attacker Gyasi Zardes or Jordan Morris from Seattle Sounders.
