Great controversy in the USL after the debut of a 14-year-old player
Phoenix Risings used Ansu Kanneh in an official game and they were questioned about the player's young age.
The USL is the second highest level league in the United States. The MLS feeds on players there and then empowers them. Phoenix Risings played with a 14-year-old player and some officials within the USL criticized the team. Many people believe that it is not old enough to play in the first team.
While the USL draws the majority of its players from academies across the United States, they believe 14 years is too little to play in the USL. From the USL some managers said that at that age it is still recommended that they be in the academies or playing for the youth divisions.
At 14, players have a very large physical disadvantage and are at risk of injury. Not only do academy or youth players play in the USL, but any player who is no longer in the MLS can play. The experience between any player and Kanneh can hurt the young player.
The mentality of 14-year-olds is also one of the things to keep in mind when making a debut for such a young player. Some USL members believe they are not yet ready to make a first-team debut. You see younger and younger players in the USL and it's becoming normal.
