Head coach Raphael Wicky and the Chicago Fire fans have praised team captain Francisco Calvo. His great personality and charisma is one of the attributes that from the first day at the club have made him a benchmark in the Fire locker room. After the departure of former captain Dax McCarty, he has been in command of the team on and off the field.

Calvo, at the beginning of the year, had his contract extended until 2021. Since then he has started all 16 of the Fire’s games. Either on the field or in the locker room, has done a great job as a team leader. For example, back in January when many central backs had left the team, he had no problem at turning to that position. In fact, he performed greatly there.

Calvo's secret is that he tries to give the best of himself every time he enters the field, the player confessed. Outside the pitch, he tries to keep the team together and push his teammates to stay focused on the objectives they have set as a whole. His next goal is to make it the playoffs.

Francisco Calvo is continually praised by Fire coach Raphael Vicky and also by his teammates. Fire's goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth also played alongside him in Minnesota and praised both his leadership and his ability to play, stating that the kind of leadership the Costa Rican national team player offers is contagious to the rest of the locker room.
