Diego Lainez is battling hard in 2020-21 season wearing Real Betis’ shirt in Spain. The 20-year-old Mexican star is one of the new talents in his country’s soccer and is one of the new men who carries his nation’s future hopes on his shoulders. But, things are not going so well so far for him. He is tipped as one of the upcoming heroes for the Tri.

Lainez was the visible face of the 2019 Under 20 World Cup fiasco, in which Mexico lost all three games in the group stage with just one goal scored. Following the postponement of the 2021 edition, the North American side can only hope for some revenge in the Tokyo Olympics. Of course, to achieve so, they have to qualify to the competition.

Guadalajara will be hosting the Under-23 Pre Olympic Tournament next month, and of course, Lainez is one of the biggest stars to be featured. However, given this is not an official FIFA competition, the clubs are not forced to release the called-up players. And that meant a huge blow for Lainez’ hopes towards the tournament.

Mexico’s Under 23 national team coach Jaime Lozano has released the list of players who will appear in the Pre Olympic Tournament, and it turns out that Lainez was not released by Betis, as reported by Record. If he had attented to the competition he would have missed the Derby against his club’s rivals Sevilla.
