Christian Pulisic, a striker who is gradually becoming a tormentor of different national teams, led the team that defeated the USMNT in the final of the CONCACAF Nations League to win the title.

The USMNT is under renovation, with men who play in European soccer and are looking to position it at the top, among them Christian Pulisic. He has also become Landon Donovan's replacement, having recently won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea and has a promising future.

Where was Christian Pulisic born?

Born in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Christian also had the opportunity to represent Croatia, but he opted for the national team of the Stars and Stripes because there he could become the leader of the new generation. He owes his nationality to his father, Mark Pulisic, who is of Croatian descent.

When did Christian Púlisic start playing soccer?

Christian Pulisic Mate always grew up surrounded by a ball because his parents were linked to the sport, his father to futsal and his mother to college soccer. When he reached the U.S. lower divisions, he was convinced of which national team he would represent.

Life took him to Europe, where he made his debut with Borussia Dortmund of the Bundesliga, where he was also the youngest player to score in the club's history at the age of 17. "I had my doubts, like anyone else. I was going to leave my family, my friends and the great life I had for 15 years in the United States. To this day, it's still the hardest decision I've ever made in my entire life."

How has the nickname been used?

Since moving to Chelsea for £57.6m ($73m), the attention on the winger has only intensified. It has led him to receive more column inches than most, playing at one of the world's top clubs, in the most talked-about league while serving as a posterboy for American soccer.

The name Captain America has been known to be used in the dressing room environment, having also been used by written media for sometime.

What does Pulisic think about the nickname?

Despite the popular usage, Pulisic doesn't like the nickname Captain America: “I’m not a big fan of being called that, to be honest - especially by my teammates,”

It could be in part due to Pulisic not enjoying the limelight of the professional sports world as much as most. Equally, he bears a lot of pressure through his status for his national team that has seen him earn both a lot of hype and vilification. Ultimately, a nickname is not something you can control when it comes into such popular usage, so the forward might have to embrace it in the years to come.
