On Saturday 29 May, Christian Pulisic was proclaimed champion of the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea after defeating Manchester City in the final. The ‘Captain America’ became the first American in history to play and win the Champions League, so he set a precedent and wrote his name in gold letters in soccer in the United States.

Now, the "10" of the set of the Stars and Stripes was a key piece for his team to be proclaimed champion of the Concacaf Nations League. USMNT prevailed in overtime against the Mexican team and it was precisely Pulisic who scored the winning goal in the extra time by way of a penalty. His euphoric celebration represented an entire nation that today celebrates after 14 years of not winning a final against Mexico.

"I'm very proud of this group, we needed everyone today and it was a phenomenal performance," said Pulisic visibly moved before the microphones of CBS Sports Golazo after the game on Sunday night.

The future of USMNT

The United States will play a friendly match against Costa Rica on Wednesday June 9 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Later, the commitments in the Gold Cup will begin and their debut in this contest will be on July 11.
