Carlos Vela may have not won as many Champions League titles as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo or won’t know how heavy is the World Cup trophy that Kylian Mbappé lifted in 2018. But still, the Mexican can be proud or a record he achieved in front of the three stars of the last years.

The Mexican star has been showing great shape in Los Angeles FC since he joined MLS in 2017. His performances were so good that he could put himself on top of names like Mbappé, Ronaldo o the Argentinian legend Messi.

During a week he was on top of these stars in the world-wide goal scoring ranks ahead of these three mega-stars. By the fourtheenth week of 2020 he had scored 39 goals in the last year, tied with Morocco’s Abderazak Hamdallah from Al-Nassr, and behind Robert Lewandowski. Messi had scored 35 goals, Mbappé 32 and Ronaldo 26.

Arsenal FC acquired Vela by the end of 2005, after he stunned in the U17 FIFA World Cup won by Mexico. Then he spent different seasons on loan at Celta de Vigo, Salamanca and Osasuna in the Spanish La Liga, followed by a spell in Real Sociedad that would turn into a definite transfer for €14 million. Then, for 2017-18 season, LAFC brought him to MLS for €5 million.
