This Sunday Barcelona had the chance to win their first title of the year. For the final of the Spanish Super Cup, they faced Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia and were hoping to repeat what they did last year, when they won 3-1 and were champions. But things did not turn out as they had hoped, as they were outplayed from start to finish by their rivals and suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat.

The failure in Saudi Arabia added to other recent defeats Los Blaugranas had suffered. For example, in La Liga they lost against Girona and Real Madrid, the leaders of the standings, and that left them far from the top of the tournament. And in the Champions League, although they won Group H, they lost two of their last three matches, against Shakhtar Donetsk and Royal Antwerp.

These poor results, coupled with the team's disappointing performances, have led to harsh criticism from the press and fans against the players, but especially against Xavi Hernandez. The coach is reproached for strategic decisions that did not work and his lack of reaction to solve the team's problems.

With this scenario, the defeat in the Super Cup final sparked rumors about the manager's future. However, sporting director Deco gave a press conference and dispelled the doubts: "This is not the time to talk about Xavi's future. He has the confidence of the president, the sports management? It's a tough defeat that must be discussed, but it doesn't change anything".

He still has confidence in himself

Xavi Hernandez also gave a press conference and assured that he has the energy to continue at Barcelona: "I am prepared to take criticism. There already was. But I believe in the project. In myself. And I believe we are capable of turning the situation around. There are still three titles at stake, and we have to compete for them".
