According to Sport, Xavi has reportedly forgiven his entire salary for the next year of his contract. He doesn't want to harm the club financially. Xavi spoke more about the difficulty of managing Barca and even mentioned Sir Alex Ferguson, saying there can't be a coach to stay many years at the same club as Ferguson.

Xavi says, "Being a Barça coach is so difficult. You see how they criticize you; it affects you. At one point, you begin to wonder: Is it worth it? And that's it. My loved ones know it. I took the decision to leave some time ago. You used to ask me if I wanted to be Barça's Alex Ferguson. The truth is that there will never be a Ferguson here. It's impossible. You won't allow it. That's the truth."

Xavi also mentions that he didn't tell his players about his decision before the announcement. Frenkie De Jong spoke after the game and defended Xavi, putting the blame on him and the players on the pitch. De Jong said, "It's the fault of us players. If the plan doesn't work on pitch, it's our fault, not only of the coach. Confidence in Xavi? Yes, full."

Xavi explains how the players were after the 5-3 loss to Villarreal, saying, "I haven't told the players yet. I'll talk to them tomorrow. I saw them very sad today. They don't deserve what's happening because they're a great group."
