Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has revealed that this season will mark the end of his illustrious career at Anfield. In an interview with Sky Sports, the 32-year-old confirmed there has been no progress in contract renewal talks, with his current deal set to expire in June. "There’s no progress; we’re very far apart. All we can do is wait and see," Salah stated, emphasizing that he does not want the uncertainty to affect his performance on the pitch.
Despite the off-field uncertainty, Salah is enjoying a spectacular season. He leads the Premier League in both goals and assists, tallying 17 goals and 13 assists so far. Liverpool currently sits atop both the Premier League and Champions League tables, but the potential departures of key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, alongside Salah, are casting a shadow over the club's future.
Having already won every major trophy with Liverpool, Salah’s primary goal in his final season is to win the Premier League in front of the club’s passionate supporters. Reflecting on Liverpool's 2020 league triumph, Salah expressed a lingering regret: “We didn’t celebrate that title with our fans the way we wanted because of the pandemic. That motivates me to try again.”
Salah also spoke about his mindset for the remainder of the season. “If these are my last months here, I want them to be incredible. I don’t want them to be defined by worries or stress,” he shared. While he remains grateful to Liverpool and its fans, his transparency about leaving has elicited mixed emotions among supporters.
Salah’s departure represents a monumental challenge for Liverpool, as the club must rebuild while losing one of its greatest players. His leadership and consistency on the pitch have been pivotal to the Reds’ success over the years.
As Salah prepares to bid farewell, he remains focused on leaving behind an unforgettable legacy. "I want to achieve something special for the club and the city before I go. Hopefully, we can make it happen," he concluded.
