Lionel Messi made his debut for Barcelona in 2004 and quickly earned a place in the team. From that moment on, he became a key player thanks to his dribbling, goals and assists, leading Los Blaugranas for 17 years and winning the most important titles in Spain and Europe. In fact, he is the player with the most games, goals, assists and titles in the club's history.

However, it all almost didn't happen. In 2000 Leo arrived in Catalonia from Newell's Old Boys when he was only 13 years old with the aim of joining the club's youth teams and starting his career there. In return, Barcelona were going to take care of a treatment to stimulate his growth, while helping his father get a job in Spain. But as the weeks went by and the Catalan side did not make the agreement official, the Messi family was losing patience.

With this scenario, a meeting took place between Horacio Gaggioli, then Lionel's agent, Josep Maria Minguella and Carles Rexach. The latter was a chief of the club who was convinced in signing the Argentine player. Therefore, to calm the parties, he wrote and signed a message on a napkin that read: "In Barcelona, on December 14, 2000 and in the presence of Mr. Minguella and Mr. Horacio, Carles Rexach, technical secretary of FC Barcelona, undertakes under his responsibility and despite some opposing opinions to sign the player Lionel Messi as long as we keep to the agreed amounts".

That agreement finally came to fruition and Leo soon became a world soccer star. The napkin was kept for years in a safe deposit box, but now it will have a very different fate: it will be auctioned.

How much is it worth?

According to the newspaper La Vanguardia, the napkin with Messi's first "contract" in Barcelona will be auctioned through the company Bonhams between March 18 and 27. The value expected to be obtained in exchange is at least $380,000. Many believe that this object should be part of the Barcelona museum, so maybe the Catalan side will bid to keep it.
