Ronaldo Nazario, famously known as "El Fenómeno," has announced his ambition to lead the Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF) as its president, promising to restore Brazil’s footballing prestige. Central to his vision is a bold promise: appointing Pep Guardiola, widely regarded as the best coach in the world, as the manager of the Brazilian national team.
Ronaldo, who currently owns Real Valladolid in Spain, is preparing to sell the club to fully focus on his political and sporting aspirations in Brazil. With strong support from figures like Andrés Sánchez, former president of Corinthians, and a close ally of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Ronaldo aims to rebuild the Seleção’s identity. Brazil’s national team has not won a FIFA World Cup since 2002 or a Copa América since 2019, and Ronaldo believes it’s time for a transformation.
“I have hundreds of reasons, but the biggest is to make Brazilian football respected worldwide again,” Ronaldo told Globo Esporte in a recent interview.
According to Spain’s Sport newspaper, Ronaldo has already reached a verbal agreement with Pep Guardiola, the current manager of Manchester City. Guardiola, in an earlier interview on the podcast Desmontadito, hinted that Manchester City would be his final club and that he was open to coaching a national team in the future.
Ronaldo and Guardiola share a long-standing connection, having played together at Barcelona from 1996 to 1997. Ronaldo sees Guardiola as the perfect strategist to lead the “Scratch du Oro” back to glory. While Guardiola is under contract with Manchester City until 2027, Ronaldo envisions bringing the Catalan coach to Brazil after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, possibly in time for the 2030 tournament.
Ronaldo’s mission is driven by his passion for Brazilian football. His vision includes not only securing Guardiola but also reshaping the national team’s style to reflect Brazil’s historic flair and dominance. “The world still admires Brazilian football, but we need to match that admiration with results,” Ronaldo said.
The Seleção’s last World Cup victory in 2002 marked Ronaldo’s own legendary performance. His dream is to guide the team to another championship under his leadership at the CBF, with Guardiola’s tactics as the cornerstone.
