Colombian football club La Equidad, renowned for its steady performance in the country’s top division, has been acquired by the U.S.-based investment group Tylis-Porter, which includes Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds. The announcement was made by the club on Thursday, confirming that the transaction had been approved by Dimayor, the governing body of professional football in Colombia.

This acquisition marks a turning point for Colombian football, as the group, led by Al Tylis and Sam Porter, aims to heavily invest in youth development programs and strengthen the women’s team. Reynolds, widely known for his box-office success and growing footprint in sports management, brings an additional layer of global recognition and ambition to this venture.

Commitment to Development and Community

In an official statement, Al Tylis expressed excitement about the new chapter: “It’s an honor to be part of this great club. We want all our fans to feel proud. Our goal is to strengthen every aspect of the club, with long-term investments building upon the solid foundation already in place.”

Sam Porter highlighted Bogotá’s significance to the project: “Bogotá is an incredible city, full of opportunities for growth and success. Being part of this project and its passionate fan base fills us with enthusiasm.”

The Tylis-Porter group also features other notable personalities, such as actress Eva Longoria, baseball star Justin Verlander, model Kate Upton, and speaker Scott Galloway. These individuals bring not only financial backing but also a global perspective to the club’s ambitions.

Ryan Reynolds: From Wrexham to Bogotá

Ryan Reynolds, known for his role in Deadpool, has been expanding his interests in football since 2020 when he and Rob McElhenney acquired the Wrexham Football Club. Under their leadership, the Welsh club achieved a meteoric rise from England’s fifth division to League One (third tier) in just two years.

Last year, Reynolds and McElhenney also became minority shareholders in Mexican side Necaxa, showcasing their growing interest in expanding football ventures globally. With La Equidad, the duo now seeks to replicate their successful model in South America, a region brimming with opportunities for sporting and commercial growth.

Key Highlights of the Deal:

  • International acquisition: Tylis-Porter and Ryan Reynolds secure ownership of La Equidad, with Dimayor’s approval.
  • Planned investments: Focus on youth development and the women’s team.
  • Global vision: Bogotá positioned as the epicenter of a project aimed at impacting sports and community development.
  • Proven track record: Reynolds and McElhenney have already achieved success with Wrexham FC and are part-owners of Mexico’s Necaxa.
  • Star-studded backing: The group includes Eva Longoria, Justin Verlander, and other prominent investors.
